Keyboard Copy/Paste in Eclipse on (K)Ubuntu Workaround
Using the keyboard to copy/paste or cut/paste in Ubuntu/Kubuntu hasn’t worked without two or more taps on the keys for too long. I finally found a bug on launchpad that discusses the problem and confirms that I’m not the only person seeing it. The bug was opened in April of 2008 and is still unresolved today, so I wouldn’t expect it to be fixed any time soon.
The good news is there is a workaround for both desktops. For Ubuntu you’ll need to switch out your clipboard manager as described in the bug.
For KDE the process is simple. Right click the Klipper icon in your System Tray and select “Configure Klipper”. Uncheck the box next to “Prevent empty clipboard” and you’re good to go.
